Hey Everyone,
We are finally back home from our summer tour. We left Taking Back the Streets a day early and drove through the night to make it home. We have been spending this week trying to catch up on emails and everything that had piled up while we were gone. I was just able to upload the rest of our pictures to the Flickr so check them out. Click the banner on the side or visit http://flickr.com/thelovealliance
I apologize for not posting any more videos, we had left our firewire cable along with our audio equipment in Bradley Hathaway’s van at Cornerstone and haven’t been able to transfer video or record podcasts since. He shipped it to our house and we just got it back today. So be on the lookout for more Video Blogs of us on the road because we did continue to film and we have tons of footage.
We have one more festival in our home state of Florida. The Real Big Deal Festival in Gainesville, FL, on September 13-14. Some great bands are playing: Mates of State, Motion City Soundtrack, Mae, Band Marino, Straylight Run, etc. So if you around stop by and say hi.
Some highlight pictures, check out more here:

Just posted a ton of pictures from the last couple of festivals and days off: Cornerstone Festival, Soulfest, Kingdom Bound, and NYC. Check out our Flickr @ www.flickr.com/thelovealliance

Some Highlights:

Hey Everyone,
Sorry for the delay on the blog. Things have been quite busy with the Myspace Impact Awards and getting ready for the second leg of tour. Speaking of the second leg of tour, we left today for Soulfest. We are in a hotel in North Carolina and still have 14 hours of driving ahead of us. Luckily the festival doesn’t start until Wednesday. Be on the lookout for posts and pictures from the trip. More video from the first leg of tour is still on the way as well.
Hey everyone sorry we didn’t post this earlier, it was done but we haven’t had internet since our last blog. Be on the lookout for another blog and video blog 3 soon.
We are driving through the mountains of Pennsylvania listening to Donald Miller’s “Through Painted Deserts.” We just left Lake Chippewa, OH, which is where we stayed during Alive Festival and our little break. We had a great time there and stayed with our friend Chris Waite, an Invisible Children Roadie from this past spring tour. We were able to talk to Chris about his work with IC and his recent trip to Uganda, be on the lookout for that interview on our second podcast.
Alive Festival was a long four days but it went well. We were able to spread the word about The Love Alliance and the issues that we deal with. We have already gone through about 6,000 flyer cards. We met some amazing people and were able to get to know a lot of the other vendors better. Day Four of the festival we had a huge storm. We were able to get a lot of video footage so look out for that in our third Video Blog.
We had two days off after Alive and we spent them at Chris’ lake house. Sunday we planned on water skiing all day but it continued to rain. Luckily a window of clear skies opened up that night and we were all able to give it a try. The next morning we woke up sore but it was definitely worth it. That afternoon Chris took us to the abandoned Lake Chippewa Amusement Park to take some pictures. The first thing we came across was a massive wooden rollercoaster. I played it safe while the other guys went climbing up the tracks. It began to rain so we all climbed up to an enclosed area. After the rain stopped we decided to continue to explore. Chris jumped off the platform into a pile of wood and I said I would rather not jump on a nail, just as those words came out of my mouth I stepped and felt something sharp go through my shoe and into my foot. I pulled up and saw a nail, I took my shoe off and my sock was covered in blood. I called Lauren who was at the house to find out when my last Tetanus shot was. From what we concluded, my last shot was when I went to Honduras in 9th grade. Lauren drove me to the Urgent Care Center and after waiting a while I saw the doctor and got a shot, not something I was too excited about but I made it through okay.
That brings us to today, we are driving to Creation Festival which starts tomorrow. We look forward to meeting new people and seeing some old friends. Pictures from Alive Festival are up on the Flickr and our second Video Blog should be up today or tomorrow. Keep checking the blog for more post, videos, and pictures.
This is our first blog of many this summer. We will be updating you on everything that goes down on this tour. We have had minimal internet access so there is a festival worth of information in this blog. We’ll try to space it more out next time.
We made the two day drive from Melbourne, Florida, up to Wilmore, Kentucky. We never thought we would fill our car with the necessities we needed for our first month on the road. But after fitting 2x as much into boxes as was supposed to be and after a long game of life sized Tetris we were actually able to fit everything in the car and hit the road.
We stopped Tuesday night in North Carolina and drove up to Kentucky the next day. After having to move our booth 2 times we were finally set up with our friends Stephen and Jon from XXX Church.
The next day Ichthus started and we got to work at the booth. The first day was pretty smooth sailing. It was super hot (but what summer festival isn’t). We were able to talk to a huge amount of people about their ability to effect social injustice in the world. We also handed out a ton of informational flyer cards about world poverty, clean water, modern-day slavery and the AIDS epidemic. We were also able to catch up with our friends Wendy and Dawn from the band Fireflight and talk with them on the situation in Cambodia and what we can all do to make a difference towards it. Check out our first audio podcast (coming soon) to hear the awesome things Fireflight is doing to effect social injustice.
The second day started out pretty similar to the first but man did it take a turn. Around 5pm it started storming. The circus sized tent our booth was in started rattling and all of a sudden BOOM down comes one of the gigantic tent poles. People were screaming for everyone to get out of the tent and everyone started running for the exits. Because it was pouring outside we decided to stand at the edge of the tent that wasn’t effected. We were standing about 50 feet from our booth and I (Lauren) realized we hadn’t grabbed our video camera and we were in the middle of prime time recording. So in one of the dumber moments in my life I decided to make a run for it. So with tent poles swaying around me, my hands shaking and my head screaming this was a bad idea, I grabbed the video camera and luckily made it back to the edge of the tent unharmed. We started filming immediately but right as the camera was turning on the storm picked up and the sides of the tent started shooting out. (Hopefully we got some footage, if we did it will be on our first tour video blog). The festival worker in front of me stepped in front of our camera to scream for everyone to get out of the tent. Crowds of people took off running and we took the 1000 ft run to our car through the sideways rain. When we made it to our car we looked like we had jumped in a lake. Soaked to the bone, we decided to wait out the storm at a local Mexican restaurant. After hours of waiting to check on our stuff we had to leave behind in the storm we finally got word that the festival was not opening for the night. So we headed back to the home we were staying out and got some much needed rest hoping our stuff wasn’t ruined in the storm.
Yesterday was the last day of the festival and we were finally allowed into the tents after the previous days storms. While a lot of vendors stuff had water damage, we had very minimal damage. There were just a few lost flyers and some dilapidated boxes but that was really it. We finished out the festival strong. We spoke with a ton of people about getting a Love Alliance group started in their area. Keep checking back for continual tour updates through these written blogs, our video blogs, and pictures.
Ohio, we will see you in a few days!
